Top 10 Courses that Open the Door for Permanent Residency in Australia

In this article, we are going to tell you about the best courses which can pave the way for your permanent residency in Australia.

As Australia continues its way toward becoming a world economic power, individuals from across the globe seek ways through which they could become permanent residents of this country. Australia now offers plenty of temporary and permanent visas to those who wish to pursue their life ambitions in the land of Kangaroos and Koalas. Each visa comes along with a set of eligibility criteria such as qualifications, work experience, visa fees, the required level of language proficiency, etc. One way to get a permanent residency, and this is perhaps the best way for many, is to come to Australia as an international student and select courses that allow them to obtain Graduate or Skilled visas afterwards.

Working as a non-citizen in Australia has its own limitations. However, certain occupations are in high demand. Therefore, the Australian Department of Home Affairs updates its list of wanted occupations annually so as to prioritise the prospective immigrants based on the skills and qualifications they have.

In this article, we are going to tell you about the best courses which can pave the way for your permanent residency in Australia.

Nursing and healthcare:

As living standards are growing in Australia, so does its demand for more staff in the health-related sectors. Australi’s healthcare sector has been in need of nurses for the past decade and will remain so for quite some time. The latest modelling on the nursing workforce demand predicts a shortfall of 45000-123000 nurses by 2030. Such a high number of needed nurses implies that nursing students stand high chances of being employed shortly after completing their courses. As nursing is one of the occupations mentioned in Australia’s skilled occupation list, being a registered nurse offers several ways to become a permanent resident of Australia. Here are seven universities in Australia which are the best for studying medical sciences

Accounting

An inseparable part of every business is managing its finances, and that is when accounting comes in. Keeping that in mind, some could say that an accounting graduate will never experience unemployment or job stress. This is due to the imbalance between the government’s plan for development and the workforce shortage it has been facing in many sectors. Depending on the job you are after, you can take certain accounting courses in Australia. While getting a diploma in accounting takes around six months, obtaining higher professional accounting degrees may take you from 2 years or more. International students who wish to study accounting at Australian universities should prioritise their options according to the following list.

• University of Melbourne

• The University of Queensland

• Monash University

• University of Sydney

• UNSW Sydney • Australian National University

One other occupation which is in high demand is teaching. It is estimated that the student population in Australia will rise to 21% by 2030. Given the early childhood education policy, this will leave Australia in need of around 50000 teachers within the next three years. Due to such a high demand for teachers, the Quality Initial Teacher Education Review in 2021 predicted that 90% of teaching students would find a full-time teaching career four months after graduation. In the worst scenario, this number might fall to 60% depending on the subject one teaches as well as the region in which the teacher lives. Currently, the demand for science and math teachers is higher than that of other fields. With that being said, you are highly recommended to consider teaching in Australia if you have a passion for it. You may choose one of the following universities.

• University of Melbourne

Points to remember

In this article, we aimed at providing you with some essential information about ten courses that can pave your way to permanent residency in Australia. As mentioned earlier, applying for these courses increases your chances of getting a permanent visa. After completing your course, depending on your course, you may be allowed to work in Australia for up to 5 years.

There are, however, several points you need to consider before applying

  • All courses are taught in English. Therefore, you must possess the required proficiency level in English. This might differ from course to course and one centre to another, but typically an overall score of 6 in IELTS or 70 in TOEFL may suffice.
  • The universities/centres suggested in this article were selected based on their world ranking and the number of courses they offer.
  • The duration of your course might vary from 6 months to three years or more depending on the centre you choose as well as the degree you wish to obtain. However, shorter courses will not make you eligible to apply for a graduate visa.

You must meet the Australian Study Requirement if you wish to apply for a graduate visa. Here is all you need to know about Australian study requirements:

  • You must have a diploma, an advanced diploma, a trade qualification, or a bachelor’s degree.
  • Whether you have one or more official certificates, you must have studied for no less than two academic years (92 weeks) to complete your courses. Otherwise, you will not be eligible for a graduate visa.
  • You must provide evidence/document that confirms you have completed your courses in Australia and your classes were held in English at an Australian educational institution.
  • The courses you have completed must be registered on CRICOS
  • Your visa authorised you to study, and it didn’t expire before you completed your courses.
  • The period during which you have completed your courses must not exceed the period specified by CRICOS. If you take longer than expected to complete a course, you will not receive any credit for the extra time you spent.
  • Suppose your course should last for longer than 92 weeks, according to CRICOS. You will receive study credit for the extra time you had to spend. For example, you might have to complete 20 equal units to get your degree. If you do not fail any courses, you will complete 16 units within two academic years. As you have performed within the framework set by CRICOS, you will receive study credit for the remaining four units. Of course, each student can receive study credit only if their course is CRICOS-registered and has not received such a credit earlier.
  • If you take two separate courses with shared units, the time spent completing those units will count only once.
  • If the course you take requires completing some units outside Australia, you can still meet the study requirements if you complete enough courses in Australia. The time spent on these courses should not take less than 16 months, and your physical presence is a must.

Things you should include in your application

  • The name and location of the institute/university you completed your course
  • The language in which your course was held
  • Whether you completed your course as a full-time or a part-time student
  • Whether you did any online or distance learning
  • The date you started and ended your course
  • All copies of your course transcripts
  • The date of your course completion. Course completion date is when you met the requirements for obtaining your degree and were notified via a letter, email, etc. It is typically weeks/months earlier than the time you actually receive your degree.

• You must apply within no more than six months before your graduation date. It might take months before your visa application is approved, so plan well ahead.

• There are typically four visa subclasses that you might qualify for. They include subclass 189, subclass 190, subclass 485, and subclass 491. Some of these visas have separate streams, and you can only apply for one visa at a time and, for that matter, take one stream only. So, you are highly recommended to contact a good migration agency and ask for help.
